Pros: situated on the high street, nice decor, friendly staff, good coffee, locally roasted
Cons: overall atmosphere for coffee, charge on cards, wi-fi .
Walking down Leicester High St, I popped into The Cookie, promising itself to be more than just a venue. I was there for just the coffee.

I was immediately greeted by dim lights, obscure music (which isn’t too loud to kill the enjoyment and plays nicely in the background) and probably best off all: quiet. I don’t like too much noise in my cafes or when I’m drinking coffee. The venue predominantly hosts music which is displayed beautifully on the signage above The Cookie logo.
The counter has beers and specials should your caffein needs be satisfied before hand and also serves food. The americano I ordered was reasonably priced at £1.80 (there is a 50p charge on cards which whilst not uncommon is something to be aware of. I tend not to carry cash if I can help it) and the lady that served me knew about the coffee she was about to serve me. It is locally roasted and she was kind enough to tell me where to go – The Dark Horse (not to be confused with Birmingham’s Dark Horse) you can find it on Bowling Green Street.

The coffee was served in a homely mug, when I tried it black I was greeted by hazelnutty tones. But when I added milk I got the chocolate and fruity notes to add to it. Usually when I drink dark roasts I’ll stick with black, however, I’d recommend the milk for maximum enjoyment. I’m pretty sure it always tastes better knowing it is locally roasted.
As I sat and drank my coffee and looked around I couldn’t help but feel but out of place – the venue and the coffee doesn’t go. This is a perfect venue when you want to stop off for a cocktail and beer, I can imagine on a weekend it bustles with conversation and difficulty getting to the bar but if you wanted to stop off during the day and enjoy a coffee I’d pass on this.
Wi-fi is available and uses The Cloud via sky but I didn’t have an account and didn’t sign up. 4G/3G works absolutely fine though.
