After my initial visit to 3 Three’s Coffee Lounge, I was keen to go back and try something different and new. It is with luck then, that I woke up on Wednesday morning and the first instagram post I saw was 3 Three’s announcement of a new guest coffee (another Union blend: unioncoffee.com).

I walked in shortly after and immediately enquired about the coffee. The service was much like my first visit; personable, easy and very willing to talk to me about the coffee on hand. I wish I got the gentleman’s name who served me, but he gave me his thoughts on the coffee and what he felt was the best way to try it (a flat white with almond milk) I was a willing participant and asked for whatever he felt was best suited to this blend.Very kindly he brought over an americano and once I had finished that a flat white. So first up:

Americano ☕️☕️☕️

The blend promised candied lemon, blackcurrant jam and caramel and as I went to smell the coffee I was immediately hit with a incredibly sweet smell, which I figured to be the blackcurrant jam – I was surprised that it was a medium roast given how light it did smell. Initially I was concerned that the blackcurrant might have had a bitterness to it (given the smell) but very happy to confirm that there wasn’t and instead I was greeted by a silky texture as it coated the tongue. I held the coffee in my mouth to get the full range of taste and after several sips a zesty flavor complimented the other flavors, texture and smell. The best way I can describe this zesty-ness is like sherbet it almost makes your tongue tingle.I placed the cup back onto the table and let the coffee cool a little as I considered the flavors and if it wasn’t for the caramel it would just taste like hot water, the caramel seemed to bind the flavors within its body and allows that blackcurrant and lemon notes to come through, without it, it would have just lost all impact.Despite these flavors and texture however, the finish doesn’t linger and it is easy to forget the drink after some time – this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if you were looking for that memorable coffee perhaps this isn’t it, saying that, the Sangira as an americano is a nice contrast to their usual Revelation blend. I was curious as to how this roast would play as a espresso, perhaps the notes are too complex to enjoy in such a small drink.

Flat White with Almond Milk ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️.

Same blend but with almond milk. I’ve been curious about almond milk and how it tastes in any coffee I try since I started writing about coffee. I have to say: wow. This drink honestly stayed with me throughout my day, I spooned off some crema which was thick and sweet, and as I drank it tasted like their was sugar added it was that sweet. I had to stop myself from finishing the drink in record time and considered the tastes. The almond milk dulled the black currant taste, so it lost that overtly fruity taste and put the spotlight on the caramel, not just in texture but in taste too.

As I stirred the flat white its consistency reminded me that of a milkshake and it should really be part of a festive blend, it sent me to a place with log fires, warmth and got me into such good spirits.I drank about half of the flat white, sat back and thought; I was trying to think what food would compliment this drink perfectly and I would recommend either gingerbread or a slab of dark chocolate. I could honestly drink this all day, and this blend is perfect as a flat white, it is just enough that you want more, the caramel is punctuated subtly with caffeine and this is the best way to drink this coffee.

Where the americano was forgettable the flat white definitely was not. After I had finished I considered the americano and it paled in comparison.I consider it another successful visit and can’t wait to try this place a third time – all for review purposes of course!
